Herbs
Webster’s dictionary defines a herb
as, “A plant or plant part valued
for its medicinal, savoury, or aromatic
qualities”.
Throughout history, herbs
have been used to heal wounds, cure ailments,
relieve pain, and build & strengthen
bodies. Even before recorded history,
man has used plants for their healing
properties. Some years ago in the Austrian
Alps, a Stone Age “Iceman”
was found frozen in ice. Scientists discovered
that he carried with him a small “first
aid kit” of 2 small pieces of birch
fungus. To this day, birch fungus is still
used to stop bleeding and disinfect wounds.
There are many methods in
which herbs are used: as flavour for cooking,
tea infusions, and topical applications
(such as massage oils and skin lotions).
There is a general belief
that herbs, because they are natural,
are safe to use. However, this is not
always the case. Always consult a licensed
practitioner whenever you are planning
to go on any herbal remedy or tonics.
