Hawthorn
(Crataegus Monogyna, or Crataegus Oyacantha)

The berries and florets (flowering tops) are used. The fruits are edible and often made into marmalade. Used for its heart strengthening properties.

   

Functions / Benefits
Heart strengthening. Calms palpitations. Clears blood vessels. Antispasmodic. Lowers blood pressure.

Indications
Weak hearts (in the elderly). Moderate high blood pressure. Arteriosclerosis. White finger. Insomnia. Colic.

Contraindications
Potentiates dioxin (a toxin).

Method & Dose
Ingestion: Tea infusion (using the flowering tops), 3 cups a day.
Ingestion: Decoction (using the berries), 3 cups a day.
Ingestion: Tincture, 3-4 teaspoons a day.
